This rustic cabin in Haleakalā Crater borders the Keoneheʻeheʻe (Sliding Sands) Trail, and is located 5.6 miles from the trailhead. In the middle of the cinder desert, Kapaloa enjoys the driest conditions of all the backcountry cabins. It sleeps up to 12 people, has pit toilets and nonpotable water, plus a log burner and three fire logs per booking.
Permits must be picked up at Headquarters Visitor Center on the day.
