Sayokhat

Top choice in Tajikistan

Penjikent's most imaginative eatery, this eccentric wooden structure boasts timber stairways and cosy booths and is festooned with traditional artefacts and beautiful Tajik textiles. The delightful owner, Sharif Badalov, goes out of his way to make guests feel welcome and is justly proud of the establishment's 'high-level plov' (pilaf). The gharmij (wheat drink) is worth trying and the osh is a must.

At the time of research, the property was expanding to include a small hostel in the ornate wood-paneled rooms on the second floor.
