Dilovar's Villa

Tajikistan

Built by a British national and run by hospitable Mr Dilovar, the eight rooms in this grand two-storey villa have beds and boast spectacular views in all directions. Generous meals (lunch/dinner US$5) are shared round a communal table – ask for the signature pyrashki (doughnuts filled with herbs). There's a Western-stype loo (with fluffy loo seat), hot-water showers and washing machine.

There's no missing the villa as it sits on top of a small knoll in the middle of the landscape at the confluence of two rivers and as such makes the perfect base for walking and hiking. Indeed numerous routes lead from the villa's front door – west into meadows ideal for summer camping and north along the river's edge through steep canyon walls.
