Jaafar Sweets

Jerusalem

It's a hypnotic sight, watching pieces of bright-orange, syrup-soaked kunafeh (soft cheese topped with shredded pastry) carved from a huge tray. Kunafeh is the signature sweet of this well-established Palestinian dessert vendor. Jaafar is also noteworthy for selling well-wrapped trays of baklava and Turkish delight (also unusually, they're labelled with fixed prices); handy for a takeaway.

If you're staying to eat dessert, order a glass of tea to offset the sweetness.
