If you insist on eating something other than chocolate or ice cream, hit this legendary time-capsule deli and sandwich shop, a family-run holdover from the days when this was Vancouver's 'Little Italy.' Peruse the lip-smacking cheese and charcuterie selections, then check out the wall of marzipan, antipasti, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Almost everything here has been imported from the mother country.
It's a good spot to gather the makings of a mighty fine picnic – try prosciutto and smoked ricotta – to scoff in nearby Grandview Park. But before you leave the store, check out the ceiling: it's painted with clouds, just like the Sistine Chapel (but better). There's often a lineup at the counter, with many locals flocking in for made-to-order deli sandwiches.
