VIP Executive Tete

Mozambique

Built on the back of Tete's coal boom, this newish hotel makes a stab at the luxury end of the market and largely succeeds. The beer view is certainly beguiling: the hotel's set high above the Zambezi with a bar overlooking a curvaceous swimming pool. Rooms are functional rather than beautiful, with parquet floors and beige accents; some have kitchenettes.

Whether the hotel will justify its size and price tag in what is essentially a boom-bust town remains to be seen.
