A solid midpriced option in a sleazy part of town, the Gabial is a sparkling, efficient operation, with professional, English-speaking staff. Its 95 cool, comfortable units boast quiet air-con and spacious bathrooms. Though it's on the sterile side, value-conscious travelers don't mind and the place fills up fast.
Amid a series of drab blocks catering to by-the-hour clientele, this hotel has a thoroughly legitimate profile, as well as a slightly more creative design, with turrets protruding from a brick facade. Ride up a gleaming elevator, then proceed along softly lit corridors to your room and insert a card in the door. Decor is neutral modern: clean, off-white-tiled floors, faux-marble surfaces and mirror-panelled headboards behind good, firm mattresses. Bathrooms are unusually large for this price category and have high-pressure showers. From the upper floors, street traffic is satisfactorily muted to become a white-noise backdrop. Both the reception staff and cleaning crew are exceptionally cordial.
