Lots of families and groups of friends gather at this social spot. From April through October, they congregate at picnic tables in the outdoor beer garden. In winter, the party moves to the indoor bar. The brews are mostly lagers, pale ales and doppelbocks (dark, malty beers); samplers are available (six small pours for $8). Half-hour guided tours (per person $7) take place hourly Friday through Sunday.

The brewery is in Middleton, a Madison suburb west of downtown; take University Ave for roughly 7 miles.
