Mad River Barn

Vermont

Owners Heather and Andrew (assisted by their Welsh corgi, Gizmo) have thoroughly revamped this family-friendly, 1940s-era lodge between Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas, using recycled materials to rustic-chic effect while amping up comfort and amenities. The refurbished central barn houses a spacious, welcoming pub with Vermont microbrews on tap, warm wood paneling and a massive stone fireplace.

The 18 guest rooms are spread out across the barn, an old white farmhouse and a 'longhouse,' the latter incorporating several units with bunk beds that are perfect for families with children. Families will also love the sledding hill adjacent to the main building, and the game room, complete with refurbished antique shuffleboard table, foosball, air hockey and board games.

Breakfast is included.
