Built next to the Alamo just 23 years after the famous battle, this historic hotel has hosted Oscar Wilde, Mae West and Teddy Roosevelt; at night, you might even see a ghost tour gathered near the lobby. New additions from over the decades make it a bit rambling. Rooms vary in size and decor; 'Victorian lite' best describes the latter.
For more history, pick up a self-guided-tour brochure at the front desk. Valet-only parking is $28 per day; the pet fee is $125 per stay.
