La Colombe d'Or Hotel

Houston

Not unlike the famed Colombe d'Or in Provence (no relation), this guesthouse offers nicely designed rooms and a good French restaurant. Each of the five exquisite, one-bedroom suites were inspired by the colors and styles of a great artist – think Cezanne, Van Gogh, Renoir. This 1923 Montrose mansion has a museum-like feel (the art on display is conveniently for sale). There are also nine villas.

It's 1 mile west of Ensemble/HCC metrorail station.
