Hacienda del Sol

Top choice in Tucson

An elite hilltop girls' school built in the 1920s, this relaxing refuge has artist-designed Southwest-style rooms and teems with unique touches such carved ceiling beams and louvered exterior doors to catch the courtyard breeze. The Hacienda del Sol has sheltered Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, John Wayne and other legends, so you'll be sleeping with history. Its restaurant, the Grill, is fabulous too.

There are horses available for riding the nearby trails (60/90 minutes $40/50), and you can get a rub-down in the in-house spa.
