Canyon Rims Recreation Area

Moab

This oft-overlooked recreation area lies 30 miles south of town, just west of Hwy 191. It’s remote but well toward the Needles. Two developed campgrounds have well-spaced sites in desert vegetation.

The 17-site Windwhistle Campground lies off a paved road 8 miles west of Hwy 191, while the 10-site Hatch Point Campground is on the gravel road to the Anticline Overlook, 32 miles south of Moab. When other campgrounds are full, these spots are a good bet, with drinking water (March through October), fire rings and pit toilets. Only group reservations are accepted.
