Hither Hills State Park

Long Island

These wooded dunes form a natural barrier between Montauk and the Hamptons. The 189-site campground caters for tents and RVs, and there are spots for fishing (permit required) and hiking through the dunes; online reservations ($9 fee) are a must.

The park's western border is the stunning Walking Dunes.
