Garnet Hill Lodge

The Adirondacks

For dozens of miles of backwoods hiking and cross-country trails head to Garnet Hill Lodge overlooking Thirteenth Lake, where you can swim in summer. It has the homespun vibe and log-cabin aesthetics of an earlier era. Dine at the lodge's restaurant (4pm to 9pm) and pub (from noon).

There's Nordic skiing here in the winter and it's a good base for downhill skiing at nearby Gore Mountain. The lodge is 35 miles northwest of Lake George.
