White Horse Tavern

West Village, Chelsea & Meatpacking District

Run continuously since 1880 (it may be the second-oldest bar in NYC), this West Village institution is, understandably, on the tourist trail. Don't let that dampen your enjoyment of its pubby charms, including a pressed-tin ceiling and white-horse chandeliers: after all, Dylan Thomas and Jack Kerouac thought it was worth stopping here for a drink.
