Stellwagen Bank

Massachusetts


Stellwagen Bank is 842 sq miles of open ocean rich in marine life. The area was declared a National Marine Sanctuary in 1992 to conserve the area's biological diversity and to facilitate research and other beneficial activity. Today it's a destination for whale-watching, diving and managed fishing.

Whale-watching cruises depart from Gloucester, Boston, Plymouth and Provincetown.
