This handsome missionary church, in Gothic New England style, was built in 1875 by missionary Edward Bailey and named for Queen Kaʻahumanu, who cast aside the old Hawaiian gods and allowed Christianity to flourish. The clock in the steeple, brought around the Horn in the 19th century, still keeps accurate time. The church is usually locked, but hymns still ring out in Hawaiian at Sunday services.
