Ramen Nakamura

Waikiki

Hit this simple noodle shop at lunchtime and you’ll have to strategically elbow aside Japanese tourists toting Gucci and Chanel bags just to sit down. Then dig into hearty bowls of oxtail or tonkatsu (breaded and fried pork cutlets) or kimchi ramen soup with crunchy fried garlic slices on top. Cash only, although the sign notes 'Yen Accepted.'

Much of the menu is in Japanese – always a good sign.
