For traditional Hawaiian fare on the Road to Hana, try this satisfying little roadside vendor at Nahiku Marketplace. Order healthy poke bowls (with Hana-caught fish, drizzled with mayo-sriracha and soy-ginger marinade), and papaya shrimp salad. Meanwhile, the luau (feast) plates are exactly that – a tasting plate of Hawaiian eats. (Note that most folks find them an acquired taste.)
You'll be served up lau lau – pork and sweet potato wrapped in a taro leaf – with lomi salad, poi, cut pineapple and greens. For breakfast the dragon-fruit acai bowl is a decent option that comes with local ingredients galore – Kaua'i granola, Hana banana, Maui pineapple, Greek yogurt, strawberry, blueberry, coconut flakes and honey.
