It’s odd that for all its German heritage, Cincinnati doesn’t have many German restaurants. Enter downtown’s Bauer Farm Kitchen, which specializes in rustic Franco-German cuisine served in a wood-paneled, farmhouse-chic dining room. If you can tear yourself away from the seasonal sausage, wild mushroom goulash and other small plates, main dishes like the sauerbraten brisket with foraged spiceberries await. Book ahead.

French and German wines and beers accompany the food. Vegetarians will find options among the small plates.
