Under new ownership in 2017 after 100 years as a Du Pont–owned property, there is only one word to describe this revamped hotel: opulent. The premier hotel in the state, the Du Pont is luxurious and classy enough to satisfy its namesake (one of America's most successful industrialist families). The spot exudes an art-deco majesty that Jay Gatsby would have embraced.

But the goodness goes beyond the impressive lobby to well-appointed rooms and the stunningly ornate main dining room, the Green Room. Service is also impeccable, and staff is clearly proud of their refurbished digs. Lots of room packages available with admission to nearby museums. Rates drop significantly on weekends.
