Renovated completely in 2014, WHI radiates country luxury (marble bathrooms, flat-screen tellies etc). The classic Tap Room has the original 1806 flooring, so tread carefully after a few Ten-Penny Ales (one of the many Connecticut brews on tap). For relaxed eating, the attached White Provisions cafe feels like an old-time general store, with reasonably priced sandwiches and modern wi-fi.
The dining room, managed by renowned British chef Annie Wayte, gets high marks – Wayte has been called a 'soup genius' in the popular press.
