Shmayaa

Top choice in Southeastern Anatolia

Parts of Shmayaa's magnificent mansion date back 1600 years, and from 1915 to 1930 the building was used as a military garrison. Those soldiers wouldn't recognise it now. Set within Midyat's old town district, the 15 rooms, some with vaulted ceilings, are dressed in soothing shades of taupe and cream that complement the natural stone tones.

Some English is spoken. Wine fiends should check out the wine cellar-cave for local tipple tastings.
