Bar St

Marmaris

This raucous stretch of licentiousness is dominated by big, bold and brassy bar-club complexes that spill out onto the street. If you like laser beams, dance music, liquored-up louts and tequilas by the half-dozen, this is for you.The major action takes place between Eski İbrahim Ağa Cami and the Netsel Marina footbridge. Most bars open from 7pm to 4am.

As the night wears on, the street becomes a veritable cacophony, as each place tries to drown out its neighbours by cranking up the volume. Beers cost from ₺15, shooters around ₺10 and cocktails ₺20 to ₺30. Happy hours, free shots and buy-one-get-one-free incentives are offered, but there's no guarantee that 'name-brand' spirits will be authentic.

Heading east from the Eski İbrahim Ağa Cami, you first come to a strip of Türkü Bars and meyhanes (taverns) playing live Turkish folk and fasıl (Ottoman classical music); worth a stop to see how Turks unwind over a few milky glasses of rakı. These peter out around the marina office and the Ibiza beats and fluorescent shooters begin.
