Dibek

Top choice in Göreme

Diners sprawl on cushions and take a taste-bud tour of village food at this family restaurant. Take our advice and order the tadım (tasting) menu plus a testı kebapı (meat and vegetable stew slow-cooked in a sealed terracotta pot; the best in town). The bamya (okra) will convert even the ambivalent to the joys of this most divisive of vegetables.

Don't leave without having the moreish tel kadayıf (dough soaked in syrup and topped with walnuts and tahini) and trying the homemade sour cherry liqueur for a lush digestif.

In 2019, wine-buff owner Mehmet converted the rooftop of this 475-year-old building into a slick wine bar, which also serves cheese and antipasto platters as well as a more European-style menu (mains ₺50 to ₺150). Head upstairs after your village feast to sip wine overlooking Göreme village.
