Leerhotel Het Klooster

Utrecht Province

In a 1952 former monastery built in pseudo-medieval style, the comfortable Leerhotel is a superb deal if you don't mind being 3km southwest of town, and served by earnest young staff that are still training at the attached hotel-school. Note that the hotel closes after breakfast on Sundays with no rooms available on Sunday night.

Rooms are large and high-ceilinged with somewhat staid monastic decor that's softened with little curiosities like hiking boots over some doors and the odd 1950s framed photo. There's little to do nearby but the hotel has a bar, cloister-garden and good restaurant. Parking and buffet breakfast are free and the 40-minute stroll into town is through salubrious leafy streets. The surrounding woodlands offer further walking opportunities.
