Tona Lodge

Northeastern Tanzania

The rustic Tona Lodge is the former mission house of Jakob Dannholz. It is an amenable base with views, camping and serviceable, albeit overpriced, rooms in the original complex and in a newer annex. Meals are also available (US$10). It provides guides for hiking (from US$10 per day), and traditional dancing performances can be arranged.

Transport from Same to the lodge can be organised with the owner from about Tsh100,000 per vehicle (worth negotiating for smaller groups).
