Pemba Lodge

Top choice in Pemba

In a quiet spot on a small island off the coast of Pemba this lodge epitomises the word 'remote'. Overlooking the empty beach and ocean beyond are just five rooms in bungalows raised on wooden decks. There's also a restaurant-lounge where friendly staff serve meals, including seafood brought by local fishermen. Activities include kayaking, snorkelling and walks to the village.

Low impact is the name of the game here, with solar lighting, compost toilets and rainwater showers. The lodge is also heavily involved in turtle conservation. Transfers by car and boat cost about US$30 from Mkoani and US$60 from Chake Chake or the airport.
