Driftwood Cafe

Eastern Taiwan & Taroko National Park

Decorated like a heavily stylised tree, this roadside coffee shop gets wildly busy on holiday lunchtimes for meal sets served on lotus leaves. These include fried flying fish (April to June), but the fatty pork with kimchee on rice is easier to eat.

The 'Li Bon Bon' set is soup, garlic bread and even more garlicky spaghetti with chunks of fish fillet and plenty of pepper, nicely al dente if lacking a little panache. The cafe has no English sign, but it's easy enough to spot on the main street in central Yuren (Iratay) village.
