Kimamaya

Hualien

This popular little Japanese restaurant with floor seating options, has an izakaya menu that includes steamed clams in sake, salmon-fried rice and grilled shrimp with sea urchin paste. But the speciality is table-grill meals that, for carnivore gourmands, can include a range of wagyu beef cuts (per kg NT$9000).

The atmosphere is low-lit and youthful, but you might need to squeeze together with other diners on busy Saturday nights.
