Obscured by palm trees in the gardens of a former psychiatric hospital, the city’s main public library is in a grand 16th-century building. The Gothic entrance is original and the open atrium space on the ground floor showcases an impressive domed ceiling. Flooded with natural light, the library has photo and art exhibitions and is a cool spot to beat the heat. The few English books available are for young learners of the language.
