De Backery opened in 1963 as a small bakery in the far-eastern suburb of Edenvale. Thirty years later the owners expanded the premises by building an authentic wooden windmill – a replica of the Zeldenrust windmill in Gronigen, Holland – and opening a full-service restaurant and pancake house called De Molen inside. The Dutch baked goods and pancakes are fantastic.
De Backery (downstairs) and De Molen (upstairs) have separate entrances. Stop in to De Molen for a pancake breakfast and then shop for bread and pastries downstairs on your way out.
