New Lanark Mill Hotel

Southern Scotland

Cleverly converted from an 18th-century mill, this hotel is full of character and is a stone's throw from the major attractions. It has smart rooms (the deluxe ones are quite a bit more spacious), with contemporary art and views (and sounds) of the churning Clyde below. There's also self-catering accommodation in charming cottages, and a pool, spa and fitness area.

There are good facilities for people with disabilities. The hotel also serves good meals (mains £11 to £17). Rooms are quite a bit cheaper midweek.
