This is a special place, with cracking views and wonderfully romantic rooms (one themed on Charlie Chaplin, who stayed here), plus other suites in separate cottages and a snug bar with outdoor seating. 'Courtyard view' rooms are darkish; it's worth upgrading to one with vistas. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or some quality time off life’s treadmill.
The restaurant (noon to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm; dinner £49) is of high quality, with local lobster usually featuring in addition to renowned cheese and dessert trolleys. There's also a great wine list considering you're in the middle of nowhere.
