If you haven't experienced fado, this comprehensive introduction is even more worthwhile. Space is limited, so buy your ticket a couple of hours ahead. The 35-minute show begins with an interesting film about fado's roots and history, followed by three live songs with explanations in English. On Saturdays, the 3.15pm performance takes place at the Igreja da Misericórdia.

The Fado with History experience has been put together by local fadistas to promote the music. Performers are more than happy to talk after the show and there are CDs and books for sale.
