This new souq, shaded by areesh (palm fronds used to construct huts and houses) panels, is built over the site of an earlier souq discovered during archaeological excavations. As of late 2018, not all the shops had yet been opened, but there were a couple of boutiques selling contemporary handicrafts.
A small exhibition on Sharjah's trading history, displaying finds from the archaeological excavation of the original souq, is contained here. There's also a tourist information counter with maps of the Sharjah Heritage Area.
