The novelty factor is high at this snazzy designer hostel in the town's old prison Blokhuispoort. There are 63 beds in all, split between one huge 17-bed dorm (mixed, with triple bunk-bed-styled pods) and various four-bed cells and doubles, with shared or private bathroom.
A stylish lounge and TV room is squirrelled away in the former women's wing; there's a kitchen for guests to use and bike rental is a bargain at €5 a day.
