On a peninsula in Lake Babati, the grandly named Royal Beach Hotel, 3km south of Babati, has an attractive bar/restaurant area and a thatched disco (Friday and Saturday). Boat trips to see hippos can be arranged. It's recommended for camping: the rock bandas (thatched-roof huts) are set away from the lake and are quite ordinary inside, and you'll find cheaper options in town.
