A few ferry stops downriver from New Farm is Portside Wharf, Brisbane’s cruise-ship terminal, which has spawned a shopping-and-eating complex and a copse of apartment towers. The vibe is a little contrived, but some of the restaurants here are beautifully sited overlooking the river. To get here, take the CityCat ferry to Bretts Wharf, and follow the riverside path 500m further east.
Standout restaurants include Sono, one of Brisbane’s best Japanese restaurants; and Byblós, a buzzing spot specialising in Lebanese and Mediterranean edibles. Also at Portside is the five-screen Dendy Cinema, for those looking for dinner and a movie.
