BAM Rose Cinemas

New York City

A former playhouse that retains ornate original design features and an old-timey feel, the theater in the Peter Jay Sharp Building at the Brooklyn Academy of Music shows first-run (some 3D), independent and foreign films to discerning movie enthusiasts. It's blessed with comfy seating, great sight lines, big screens and a lovely, landmark design.

You can also catch mini-festivals and revivals here. It's only been a movie theater since 1998, which explains its distinctively retro design.
