Hengshan Moller Villa

With enough wood-panelling to level a substantial forest, this fairytale-castle lookalike, built by Swedish businessman and horse-racing fanatic Eric Moller, is one of Shanghai’s unique buildings. While it's not of luxury hotel standards, it will suit those who like a bit of quirkiness. Feature rooms are decorated with old Shanghai artwork and sumptuous bedding.

Cheaper rooms in the later No 2 extension block have rather small baths and don't put you in the main villa. A bronze horse stands over the spot where Moller is said to have buried his favourite nag.
