Jerusalem Hotel

East Jerusalem

Decorated glass and a tangle of vines adorn the entrance to the 19th-century mansion housing the small, family-run Jerusalem Hotel. Its 14 high-ceilinged rooms are uniquely decorated with embroidered throws and antique furnishings such as huge mirrors and Andalusian side tables. Some rooms have air-con; others have only fans. It's a five-minute walk to Damascus Gate.

The hotel's Diwan restaurant serves decent Palestinian cuisine, such as musakhan (chicken with onion and sumac), in the atmospheric surrounds of a centuries-old former stable.
