The first lodge on the Río Tambopata, accessible by road, is close enough to Puerto Maldonado for a one-night break. Perched on a pea-green grassy expanse atop a cliff, it feels isolated. The cabins are idyllic, 9.5km of trails beckon, and as you swing from your garden hammock, know no other lodges boast a chill-out area with these river views.
A bungalow on stilts, separate from the rest of the complex, is great for families. Sotupo Eco House sits at the end of the Corredor Turístico Bajo Tambopata. As it is before the first of the reserve checkpoints, no Reserva Nacional Tambopata entrance fees are necessary.
