Hospitality is the strong suit of French cook Patrik at this multi-award-winning restaurant, but the food does not disappoint. Start with sopa a la criolla (mildly spiced, creamy noodle soup with beef and peppers). There are also nods to traditional French cooking – like Provençal tomatoes, crispy-perfect garlic potatoes and a melt-in-your-mouth apple tart.
The candlelit decor shows the imagination of a long-lost castaway with imitation Gauguin panels, carved figurehead damsels, colonial benches and vintage objects. The menú (S78) is extremely good value for a decadent dinner. Indio Feliz has good wheelchair access, a fireplace lit on cold days and may eventually add an upstairs bar and terrace, another reason not to leave.
