The Edenesque vibe (surrounding jungle, orchids, hummingbirds) of hillside Treetops Lodge is enhanced further by the panoramic views that span Milne Bay and the mountains beyond. Sleep in simple rooms in a traditional-style hunter house, a delightful bungalow with birdwatching veranda, or a roomier cottage for four. Warren and his family are wonderful and so is the home-cooked food.
Treetops is a 30-minute (if you take the shortcut) walk from Wagawaga proper, with a short, steep final section.
PMV boats motor across the bay from the Alotau market wharf (K7, 25 minutes, daily except Sunday) between 3pm and 4.30pm. Returning, they leave Wagawaga around 6.30 to 7am. PMVs (K8, 1¼ hours) run from Alotau as far as the Ulabo timber mill, around 1km from Treetops Lodge. Arrange pickup with Warren in advance from the beach (if coming by dinghy), from Alotau or from the nearby timber mill if coming by PMV. Warren collects his guests from the airport for K100 each way.
