Reflecting its origins as an accommodation block for athletes, this concrete structure is stuck rather unsympathetically on the seashore and has something of a Soviet feel about its construction. Thankfully the interior is luxurious, rooms are large with good views and the whole resort is attractively landscaped. Best of all, there's a sandy beach, excellent water-sport facilities and good food.
The resort has become renowned as an activities hub with tennis, minigolf and a zip line in addition to its many water sports. A private company (95234461) operating from the hotel harbour offers parasailing, costing from OR20 for a single or OR30 for a double launch. Tours, including a half-day trip to Al Sawadi and Nakhal (OR60 for two people), and a popular half-day tour of Muscat (OR70), are also arranged by the resort, making it an alternative base from the capital from which to explore the Batinah Plain.
