If you're still searching for that quintessentially Norwegian meal, you won't get much more traditional than this. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it's now everyone's favourite homely hang-out in Trondheim. The rambling rooms are crammed with old furniture and decorated with colourful wall hangings, while the menu is stuffed with comforting classics such as fish soup (unmissable), baked salmon and liver pâté.
There's also a fine herring buffet (198kr to 248kr) and wild-reindeer casserole on the menu, as well as a truly epic list of aquavits.
The food here is more about heartwarming home-cooked meals than presentation, and we like it all the more for that.
