Sweeping lake views, free surfboards (for paddling) and a sprawling garden with lots of relaxing nooks and crannies make this ramshackle hostel a winner if you don't fancy the bustle of Ohrid itself. It sits on a hill above the village of Lagadin, a short bus ride south of Ohrid town. Rooms are spacious and charming, if quite basic.
Most rooms have balconies or a seating area out front, and some have seating areas inside too, while a couple of the double rooms include a third bed. There is an apartment with two separate bedrooms linked by a bathroom: great for families. There are plans to build a swimming pool and a yoga area. Adventure outings with canoes and bikes as well as hiking can all be arranged by the host.
The home-cooked dinners (€8) and breakfasts (€5) are excellent, showcasing Macedonian cuisine, and there's a stash of homemade rakija (fruit brandy) on tap. The hosts may feel like family by the time you leave this place!
