Mass Games

Pyongyang

The long-running Arirang Mass Games, the story of Korea’s history performed by over 100,000 incredibly well-coordinated schoolchildren, was finally retired in 2012 and a new show started at the May Day Stadium in 2018. Tickets are steeply priced – starting at €80 for a ‘third-class’ ticket and rising to €300 for VIP tickets.

It's worth noting that the Mass Games are essentially a performance by children as young as five years old. Lonely Planet makes no claim that these children are being mistreated, but wants to encourage visitors to North Korea to think through these issues and be aware of their contentious nature before attending the event.
